No Rothish satyriasis or Barthish metaparody or arch Woody-Allenish kvetching. Reading just Alex's bits and ignoring the rest would be a bit like picking out all the chocolate chips from a bag of trailmix The Dead Sister is a thrilling mystery that's hard to put down. And it's exquisitely tender. The Recognitionsthis leanness and pacing were very welcome. Upon its initial release everythhing book received enthusiastic reviews, particularly in The Timeswhich stated that Foer had "staked his claim for literary greatness.
To view it, click here. The novel illluminated in and ends in with the destruction of the village by the Nazis. Sadly, though, he is rather uneven, following passages of great beauty especially towards the end of the book with scenes which are so crass that they completely ruin the effect.
Foer writes beyond our expectations of one so young, and ambitiously, with humour and humanity.
